  1. Installation Details
  2. -----------------

  4. The installation program will do the following:
  5.  
  6. - Create a Program Manager Group
  7.  
  8. - Create a Program Manager Program Item for the executable program.
  9.  
  10. - Add an item for the Read Me file ( this file )
  11.  
  12. - Check the destination directories for existing, older copies of the files it's about to install.  If any older versions are found, they are copied to *.ims.
  13.  
  14. - Copy the files if the destination either did not have any copies of the file or had older versions that were backed up.
  15.  
  16. - Backup the system.ini file to system.ims and make any changes needed.
  17.  
  18. - Backup the win.ini file to win.ims and make any changes needed.
  19.  
  20. - Run the install program for Quick Time for Windows (D:\QTW2\SETUP.EXE).
  21.  
  22. - Create a log file in the windows\ directory detailing the actions it has taken.
  23.  
  24. - Prompt you to restart windows if that is required
  25.

  27. Manual Installation
  28. -------------------

  30. If you want to install this product manually, you need to copy the contents of D:\WING (6 files) to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (where D: is your CDROM drive).
  31. The [386Enh] section of system.ini needs to have the line device=dva.386 added (make sure that it does not already exist).
  32. The program can then be run from the file manager, or you can create a program item for it.  The path to the program executable is D:\DOSAPP\xxx.EXE.
  33. You will also need to manually run the QuickTime Installer in order to install Quick Time 2.0.

  36. Uninstalling
  37. ------------

  39. The uninstall feature has not yet been implemented.  To uninstall this product, you need to restore any *.ims files in the Windows and windows\system directory to their original names.
  40. Check the log file in the windows directory for details of what files were backed up.
  41. You will also need to remove the windows\magellan directory and everything in it.

  44. Program Notes
  45. -------------

  47. You will receive a warning if your display does not appear to be able to handle 256 colors.  
  48. The program will still install, but you should consider upgrading your video driver or card for optimal performance.
  49.  
  50. There are some known compatibility problems with some of the software on this CD-ROM:
  51.  
  52. If you are using certain Cirrus Logic video cards, and have version before 1.43 of the 256_1024 display driver, you may experience a GPF.  This can be eliminated by updating the display driver.
  53. Updated Cirrus Logic drivers are included on this CD in the DOSAPP\DRIVERS directory.  See the README file in the DRIVERS directory for more information on how to update your drivers.

  55. HP Color DeskJet printers using versions 3 and 4 of the printer driver may also cause problems when attempting to print.  Updating to version 5 of the driver eliminates this problem.
